About the region
La Lègerie is located in one of France's most beautiful regions. The French do the area justice by referring to it as the Périgord Vert: nature here is green and unspoiled. The hilly landscape is dotted with farmsteads, woods, lakes and the typical French villages, all of which exist in perfect harmony. There is also an abundance of beautiful castles, including along the Route Richard Coeur de Lion. The Route de Compostella, well-known amongst hikers, also passes by only a few kilometres from our domain.
A visit to one of the many local markets, like those in Nontron, Brantôme and Piégut, is always worth the while. They are a great source of typical regional products and fun keepsakes. Nor will the gourmands amongst us be disappointed. The Périgord Vert is known for its foie gras, Limousin beef, mushrooms, chestnuts, apples and clafoutis.
If you are ready for more active pursuits after all that good food, there are a great many possibilities open to you: nearby you can go hiking, biking, golfing, horse riding and swimming. Are you interested in culture? The cities of Angoulême, Limoges, Bordeaux, Périgueux and Brantôme as well as the Centre de la Mémoire in Oradour are easy to reach by car. The children can live it up in the nearby large maze, children's amusement park and zoo. In short, whether you like to enjoy nature, sample local culture or catch your breath, La Lègerie provides. Each gîte also offers information on the various activities in the region.
The nearest village Saint-Saud is six kilometers away. There, you will find a baker, a butcher, a supermarket, restaurants and terraces. In Nontron, about 18km away, there are several large supermarkets. The drive to this city is so beautiful that you will find yourself there in no time!
At about three kilometres from La Lègerie there is Le Grand Etang, a large lake that is great for swimming and a fun place for the kids to play. It is easy to reach by bike but for those who prefer to go by car, there is plenty of parking space.
